  • An Apple A Day

Posted on April 30, 2011 @ 2:38 am | File under : health benefits by sweetness

An apple a day lowers your odds of breast tumors by 29 percent.  Even better:  Research suggests eating 3 apples a day can cut your risk by 38 percent.  It’s best to consume whole apples though, instead of drinking apple juice.  The most helpful antioxidants are in the skins.  And a simply delicious way to load up on antioxidants?  Baked apples!  Try this recipe I got from AllRecipes.com.

For this recipe you will need:

    • 4 tart green apples
    • 1/2 cup brown sugar
    • 4 tablespoons butter
    • 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon

    Directions:

    1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
    2. Scoop out the core from top of the apple, leaving a well. Do not cut all the way through. Stuff each apple with 2 tablespoons brown sugar and 1 tablespoon butter. Place in a shallow baking dish and sprinkle with cinnamon.
    3. Bake in preheated oven for 15 minutes, until sugar begins to caramelize and apples are tender.
