  • Brazo De Mercedes

Posted on February 28, 2010 @ 12:33 am | File under : cakes by sweetness

Brazo De Mercedes is one of my favorite desserts since I was young.  I didn’t realize that this sweet treat is easy to make.  Got this recipe from PinoyRecipe.net.  Try it, I’m sure you’ll love it too.

For the filling, you will need:

    • 5 cups milk
    • 1 cup sugar
    • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
    • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
    • 8 egg yolks
    • 1/4 cup finely ground and toasted cashew nuts

For the meringue, you will need:

    • 10 egg whites
    • 1 cup sugar
    • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

    Procedure:

    1)  In a saucepan, simmer milk over low heat until reduced to 2 cups.   Add sugar, butter, and vanilla extract, stirring constantly.  Remove from heat.

    2) Beat egg yolks in mixing bowl.  Add a little of the milk to the egg yolks, stir, then gradually add mixture by spoonfuls back into the saucepan, beating constantly.  Stir well to avoid curdling.

    3) Beat egg yolks in mixing bowl.  Add a little of the milk to the egg yolks, stir, then gradually add mixture by spoonfuls back into the saucepan, beating constantly.  Stir well to avoid curdling.

    4) Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Beat egg whites until stiff. Gradually add 1 cup sugar, beating continuously.   Stir in vanilla.

    5) Line a large cookie sheet with parchment paper greased with butter and spread meringue on top. Bake until brown.

    6) Spread filling evenly on top of meringue and roll into a log.

    7) Brush with butter and sprinkle some brown sugar then put back in the oven to brown a little.

    • 2 cups walnut halves
    • 1/2 cup butter, melted
    • 1/4 cup white sugar
    • 1 cup light brown sugar
    • 1 1/2 tablespoon all-purpose flour
    • 1 tablespoon milk
    • 2 eggs

    3)  Add the brown sugar, white sugar, milk, flour, salt, and vanilla; mix well. Stir in the walnuts.

    4)  Pour filling into the prepared pie shell. Bake for 10 minutes at 400° F., then reduce heat to 350° F.  Bake for another 35 to 40 minutes, or until the crust in browned and filling is set.

    Cozy and Comfy

Posted on February 19, 2010 @ 4:15 pm | File under : suites by sweetness

You may think that the bedroom is the most private room in the house, you are wrong. In fact, that bathroom is and not just that. It is where we have our deepest thoughts and to some a place of solace. Notice how some people do their reading in the comfort of the bathroom? Not only that, some even have a television or a radio inside theirs. Some even up the ante and convert their bathrooms into meditation rooms and spas complete with scented candles and oils.

It is then a good idea to make your bathroom more cozy and comfy. After all, it is now a place of relaxation. What better way than to invest in a beautiful Bathroom Suite Both ergonomical and functional, fixtures now are designed to give an aura of comfort. Even personalities are addressed with subtle lines and colors that embodies the owners, distinct taste. Gone were the days when lowly bathroom was just a place of relief and to take a bath. Toilets, sinks, showers and even tubs are designed with specific users in mind.

So the next time you enter your bathroom, think of the many years of comfort and relaxation it has given you. It is after all, you own private world.
